What do you want to be when you grow up?

What do you want to be when you grow up? This seemingly harmless question is synonymous with children who almost always have a much more creative and optimistic answer than ‘I don’t know’. As a child, the possibilities are endless. Children can aspire to be whatever they want when they grow up, Movie Stars, Detectives and Astronauts would all be reasonable answers to this question.

Fast forward fifteen years and the question is phrased slightly differently ‘So, what are you going to do with your degree?’. I can’t be the only graduate who feels a sense of dread whenever they hear this question. My answer during the majority of my final year of University was ‘I’m having a gap year’. It was an amazing relief to finally be able to answer the question and taking a gap year is exactly what my post-graduate self is doing now. I’m hoping to find my career inspiration as I travel and I’ve created this blog to share my gap year experiences with highlights including trips to Prague and America, a seasonal job in Lapland and a volunteering project in India. Roll on November.
